I take melatonin by itself and it does make me sleepy. But I take 1/8 tsp of the pure powdered melatonin about an hour or two before I want to go to bed and that works wonders. That is a much higher dose than you would get from any pill or gummie.
You can develop a tolerance to melatonin, though, so I don't take it every night.
