There are some free courses online that you might want to look at before paying cash. Not sure how in-depth they are, but would give you some idea what you are getting into. https://thegenealogyguide.com/5-free-genealogy-classes-online

If you haven't worked with it yet, Family Search is a free genealogical site run by the Mormons - huge international database. I use it when I'm in the mood to do any research. They sometimes link to documents at Ancestry or other sites that charge for the document facsimiles, but Family Search has the info if you aren't trying to document everything for the DAR or the like.
