I think I'm about done with these deliver-food-to-home services

I decided to give Door to Door Organics a go since they were offering a $10 off thing for your first order. I received it today and turned right around and cancelled my account so I don't get any more.

I wasn't all that concerned with the "organic"ness of the food since conventional is just fine but I had hoped they'd have a focus on quality. On the "bitty box" order that I placed, my single tiny jalapeno was wrinkly, the roma tomatoes weren't near the ice pack yet were rather frigid so they'd been refrigerated (a SIN!), the cilantro was floppy, the fresh cut mango looks rather underripe and they put my bag of snapea crisps under one of the ice packs and a can of grape leaves so it was somewhat smushed.

sod that

That sounds downright nasty. I'd have canceled, too.

I know, right? I mean I am aware that most produce is not in season but I've had better luck with stuff from a cheap grocery store. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay a premium for substandard food just because it's supposedly "organic."

Wow, that is disappointing to hear. I've never used one of these services but I would expect decent veggies and such even after shipping. Mike's co-worker was doing the box food thing that is through Publix grocery store and she always complained about the portions being small. She said it was good but not enough of it.

I've had ok luck previously when I've used Stop and Shop's Paypal grocery delivery service when my back acts up. They do a good job of picking out acceptable produce. But since it's only me, it's not worth doing consistently since there's a delivery charge

UGH...what the hell!!

I'd hit cancel so hard the shipment would have retracted!

*HUGS*

Thank goodness I had received the promo $10 off or I'd have demanded a refund!

I've never heard of that one, but I would think those kinds of things are expensive, anyhow. I have a friend who uses that Blue Apron one. I know it's expensive, too, but she and her husband just rave about it and are always posting their food on Facebook. I'm a vegetarian, and I know how to cook, so I really don't need or want something like that. I would think things like that would be good for busy executives who don't have servants but still want to have a fresher meal. But it sounds like yours was a joke!

Door to Door Organics is mostly just for supplies rather than full recipes. I've used and tried the Peapod grocery delivery which was useful for when my back was acting up and during crap weather. It's a godsend for my friend who has six kids and a sister in law in the house because they always meet the threshold for free delivery.

For the meal services, I've tried Home Chef and HelloFresh recently since they give you first time promo codes. I know how to cook but it was fun to try out some of the "kits" and I discovered some new recipes that I'll make again. But it's not something I'd do in the long term. The only two other services I'd ponder experimenting with is Terra's Kitchen and Martha Stewart's Marley Spoon

Personally, I think the word organics is being bashes around now as a selling tool and not much else. I'm sorry your box was a mess

You have that exactly right. People are led to believe that "organic" means no pesticides are used which is completely incorrect. I bought into the hype for a while until I realized it was all a gimmick. The one thing I do try to do in the summer, though, is to buy more locally sourced produce in general. It tastes fresher and is better for the carbon footprint.

Ah, thankfully I had a promo code. On the bright side, it's good that they disappointed me right from the get go when I was paying less for it LOL

It's just a way for the stores to charge more for produce that is not necessarily any better for you. We do a lot of our vegetables from the farmers market, as you say it's fresh and good to support the local economy!
