Finally some good news.
The first alien butt probe went smoothly - and quickly - and there are no polyps and I don't need another for another TEN years. Woohoo! He did see evidence of some past diverticula but nothing inflamed or any cause for concern unless I have issues and he says they are one of those things that come with age. Emily and I went to a diner after for breakfast where I had an egg white omelet with VEGGIES (OH how I missed them), a few hash browns and a piece of rye toast. I could have finished everything since my hunger signals are clearly off but I thought it best to put on the brakes early. I also did tea since coffee may have started churning up tummy acid again. Aside from some gassy bubbles, a mild headache while trying to rehydrate and a sore back from all the twisting needed for ALLLLL the darned wiping last night, I'm doing ok.
For those that haven't done a colonoscopy, my TMI experience on the prep under the cut - YMMV
The suprep stuff does taste gross so the advice to keep it cold and use a straw was helpful. It also helped to suck on a lemon drop before doing it. I've had worse tasting things and since I needed to drink it all, I just did it steadily, taking breathing and burp breaks over the span of about 10 minutes to get it all down. Then you drink another 32 ounces of water which helps get the yucky taste out of your mouth and you feel SO full but that's needed. For some folks, evidently it can take up to a couple of hours to take effect but for me, since I already have issues with bile diarrhea (thanks metformin!), after 15 minutes I was briskly walking to the toilet where DAMN the floodgates open. I would be able to get up and walk around for a while but over the next couple of hours, you absolutely need to be near a bathroom since things are fast and furious. Also recommended to get up because you certainly don't want your legs to fall asleep just sitting on the throne. The effects started to settle some after the couple of hours and I kept trying to have broth or jello just because I knew that all the fluids I'd had earlier that day were out of me and I didn't want to feel ill from dehydration.
I honestly didn't think that I needed to do the second round but since this was my first time, I thought I should at least make sure. I cheated, though, and only did about 70% of the mix and this time it was just plain harder to drink the extra water. I was just tired of the whole dumb process. It took a little longer to kick in and actually, I may not have needed it. Fortunately I didn't have any vomiting issues and was just mildly nauseated through the second round. Since water wasn't allowed after that, I felt the dehydration far more. When I do this again, I may want an appointment later in the morning or at noonish just so that I could have gotten more rest in between the doses. I only got a few hours sleep before it was time to get up and make our way to the outpatient center.
Next up in early January is the eye appointment to see if I need reading/computer glasses to go with the expensive progressive lenses I got this last summer. I also have a new gyno on January 9 to check out the oddness that was found on my MRI and I still need to hunt up a new GP that I had my Gastro give me some suggestions this morning. I also need to get flu and covid vaccines so that I'm all set there and sometime I need to get around to shingles shots. Whew, all this stuff as you get older is overwhelming.
But very glad to have something turn out well. Oh...and after ALL THAT, I only lost slightly less than a pound. So I did see a 1 this morning but I'm sure it's gone by now. Not that I'm one to set formal "resolutions" but I am resolved to improve my health in general.
