Gettin' old

This morning on the news, someone announced that 232 years ago today back in 1785, correspondence from Benjamin Franklin with the first illustration of bifocal glasses occurred.

Interesting timing hearing that since yesterday I finally had to suck it up and get bifocals. I'm going for the non-line ones which I hope I can adjust to quickly enough. Since Sears Optical had their usual BOGO deal, for the second pair, I ordered non-bifocal "computer glasses" so I won't have to do that annoying thing of tilting my head back to read stuff on the screen. I got that pair with some sassy blue frames. The regular pair is a darker purple in back and a tortoiseshell pattern in front.

Though you'd think after something is around for 232 years that they wouldn't be so darned expensive. Bah.

James is on those now, too. I'm still grimly clinging to normal ones.

True glad you were able to get them though.

Thanks - and hopefully having decent reading/computer glasses will ease my headaches some. I even brought in a floor lamp from home so I wouldn't have to use the overhead fluorescent lights and I've been playing rain sounds as background noise

Interesting timing yes, I always like when that happens. And yes, something that's been around so long shouldn't be so expensive.

But I do hope the new glasses and floor lamp will help ease the headaches. Good idea for the 2nd pair to be for computer use. I wear reading glasses mostly, need to see the eye Dr for a new scrip on the reg glasses for the lazy eye. My last bi-focals were the lined ones as I could not afford the lineless ones but adapted easily to both and hope you can too.

Hmm, maybe I need bifocals too. My eyes are going faaaast.

I hope the glasses help with the headaches. Definitely get computer glasses; bending your head back to see will give you bad headaches. Also, the computer ones might be an intermediate Rx to your distance and close vision lenses.

I was at the eye doctor today too. She told me to start thinking about whether I would want to wear distance glasses or close glasses after cataract surgery. Nothing immediate, two or three years down the road, just start thinking about it. Then as I was selecting new frames and lenses from the optician, she asked me for my AARP card. Got a 20% discount and for what new glasses cost, I'll admit to being 100, but I prefer to be the one to ask about the discount. Definitely getting old.

I've used no-line Bi-Focals for about five years, now. It's not hard at all to adjust to them, trust me on that.

I got a buy-one, get-one with mine, too. I got prescription sunglasses. I've always wanted a pair, because even though I have Transistion lenses in my glasses, they don't get dark enough for my eyes.

I hope you like your new eyes!
