The kitties want food so I'll update quickly

Emily took a staycation down near Princeton so I took today off and drove down. We first went over this morning to Grovers Mill Coffeehouse where I got coffee and a blueberry scone which was delicious. I also picked up a biscotti to have for breakfast tomorrow at home and some local honey since that helps with allergies. The place was cute and decorated with all the War of the Worlds stuff.

Since we were in the area, we went by the park that has commemorative plaques and took a few pictures

We drove around a bit then I made Emily stop at a gas station to put air in her tire and the guy was all "It's FLAT" but put air in it for us instead of us having to pay the machine. I told her she BETTER keep an eye on it and get it fixed when she's back home. She's bad about that and we've had a VERY flat tire and got stuck before. We went back to the hotel for a brief pit stop and then went out for lunch at Pho Today (ate too much but it was tasty) which I drove this time. After lunch I dropped her back at the hotel to drive back north. We knew traffic on US1 was going to be busy today due to people taking off early for the holiday so I didn't want to linger too long down there.

I stopped by home and gave the kitties a snack and picked up the stack of my old glasses and drove to get my new ones since I got a text the day before yesterday and suspected they wouldn't be open over the extended weekend. New glasses picture! Yeah, I need to cut my hair.

New specs! )
I look tired, I am tired. But it was a good day. Now off to feed the mini fur beasties again. Both of them had hairball messes to clean up this morning so I need to do a better job of brushing.

To get up to date, JuneBug is slowly improving but of course now that we had a couple of cool evenings where I could turn off the AC and open the windows, she starts sneezing. Gurllll. Go sit next to the air purifiers or something.

Since my back was being as well as could be expected, yesterday morning I took some of the things that I can't send out for wash and fold service to the laundromat prior to the crack of dawn. That included all three big fluffy cat beds. When I got back and put them back on the bed, the kitties spent all day rotating bed to bed for naps.

My grocery delivery came at 9am which was nice because I sorely needed a nap so I put everything away and tried to get a 40ish minute nap before some small furry girl decided to harass me for snack.

Yesterday afternoon I finally made it to the eye appointment that I had to reschedule due to kitty issues a couple of weeks before. She was pleased with the condition around my eyes since she recommended washing right on top of my lids and massaging with Cetaphil. I actually should be doing it more and I will. She brought up the scans and saw the source of the floater that freaked me out about a month ago. She said we'll need to keep an eye on it since it is pretty big and if I have the big blurry area happening, to call them right away to get it scanned and make sure it's not pressing on the optic nerve. She also wants to see me again in 6 months to check on the status and we hope that it reabsorbs.

I was there to get some new glasses since I've had mine for a couple of years and while they're doing ok, the "spares" that I have are many years old so I need to turn my current pair into the "spare." My prescription changed only slightly which is good. I went around and tried on all kinds of frames and sent the pictures to Emily to help me pick out which ones to get. It was tempting to get fun colored frames and I was almost about to get some purple or green ones but then we all liked a pair of light brown ones that compliment my eye color. I did almost get these HUUUUUGE ones but since I have progressive lenses, they wouldn't have worked very well with them. Boo!

One thing that was really obvious from the several selfies I sent is the sagging skin over my right eye. It's creepy since it makes my eye look off in some pictures. Eh, maybe I'll win the lottery and be able to get a lid lift.

I asked if they take donations since when I was cleaning, I found many old pairs. They said they do have a donation box and the glasses go to the needy from a church organization overseas. That's nice. I'll bring in my extras when I pick up my new specs in a couple of weeks.

This morning on the news, someone announced that 232 years ago today back in 1785, correspondence from Benjamin Franklin with the first illustration of bifocal glasses occurred.

Interesting timing hearing that since yesterday I finally had to suck it up and get bifocals. I'm going for the non-line ones which I hope I can adjust to quickly enough. Since Sears Optical had their usual BOGO deal, for the second pair, I ordered non-bifocal "computer glasses" so I won't have to do that annoying thing of tilting my head back to read stuff on the screen. I got that pair with some sassy blue frames. The regular pair is a darker purple in back and a tortoiseshell pattern in front.

Though you'd think after something is around for 232 years that they wouldn't be so darned expensive. Bah.
