Any non-vegan folks up for trying Veganuary? All this meat I've needed for wound recovery and the horrid Hickory Farms box (that video is scheduled for publication on the YT channel tomorrow so you can laugh at my pain) is making me crave ALL THE VEGGIES.
Although I'm going to have to supplement with non-vegan supplements to keep the recovery going (stupid slow healing wound), for meals, I think that I want to try some things like the Purple Carrot subscription box I've always wondered about. I'm thinking if I want to make it content for the channel as well, I can have Emily pick out the contents and not tell me so it's a surprise. I like that they have an option to get a half and half kind of thing - half that you make yourself and half premade meals. I've had a few of the Purple Carrot frozen meals and they're actually very good.
Today we went on a group work lunch for dumplings today which while Elaine was dramatic about being afraid of chopsticks, she did try everything and really liked it. One thing that I totally need to get a good recipe for was the cucumber in scallion sauce. It was mini cucumbers smashed and the dressing tasted like scallion and sesame oil, rice wine, some garlic and it was topped with chopped scallion greens. It was amazing.
Need to get back to some work bits before I go with Emily to the old people holiday party at Emily's mom's facility. Emily's sister is bowing out sick and I know she doesn't want to go alone, especially since I know she'll be sad at her Mom who would hate the party if her brain was all there.
Hugs to all

I clearly remember my uncle wade teaching me how to use chopsticks in 5 minutes, when I was like...7? We went to the one Chinese restaurant in to ("Chang's Kitchen" LOL) - and I saw him pick up the chopsticks while everyone else used a fork - and was like "OOOHHHH" (uncle hero worship, ahahaha). He showed me how to hold them and it was no big deal, LOL.
Elaine does know that children in Asia learn how to use chopsticks at a really young age, right? LOL
Mom who would hate the party if her brain was all there.
Awww - hugs to you all. that is hard.
Also, that would be a hard no on Veganuary, lol. I shall cheer you on from the sidelines, with my eggs and cheese and meat :D Though, if you find a particularly nummy recipe, I may try it - although I think I'm done with attempting tofu recipes, LOL.

If I start to get weird about not eating enough vegan protein, I may give in when it comes to eggs. I'll also crave shrimp and fish and cream in the coffee. But if it forces me to pay attention and eat healthier in general, it's worth it for a month.

I lived with my friend Marianne for a year - she is Malaysian-Chinese and cooked all kinds of traditional chinese dishes. And definitely - they have flavour profiles that are not familiar to whitey-mc-whitey me :D
Some of her dishes smelled amazing - and some did not smell like food to me at all - like it wasn't a bad smell, it just didn't make my brain go "ohh yum, food!" It was really kind of neat to pay attention to that kind of thing.
I did try not to comment, even positively, too much - she had mentioned once that she often felt like people were staring at her and offended by her food when she was in high school and brought food her mom had made. So she was a bit sensitive about her food being "strange" - and felt some kind of way, if people asked her questions about it - even if it was just curiosity or "that smells good, what is it?"

The challenge for me is not doing eggs and dairy. Even if you try to do "meatless monday" to ease in, it's something :)
