missdiane: (Minion - WTF?)
So here I thought I lit upon the right combination of food to eat since my stomach was fine last night. I slept my usual amount of "meh" but when I tested right when I got up, it read 130? Huh? It was like I didn't take a pill at all and got my usual morning spike. How weird.

I'm guessing when it builds up in my system, things will be a little more consistent (and I don't mean by stomach swelling or aches, ya hear?).

EDIT: I had a small but decent breakfast and then at work, a snack of a clementine and a hard boiled egg. Yet when I got home I was HUNGRY and the test showed it was 95. Um...ok?

Had the phone appointment with the GP and to try to get the A1c and glucose readings down a bit, we're going to try metformin again. I looked it up and it's been 10 years since I took it and the reason I stopped is that my pharmacy changed the formulation and it was like starting day 1 for months with stomach upset. I'm at a different pharmacy and chances are things have changed again so we'll see how it goes. If I don't tolerate it well or if it starts the menstrual cycle back up with a vengeance, we'll consider something else. She suggested possibly jardiance. Thoughts? I don't know other meds that well.

We're going to hold off on any meds for the depression/anxiety since Pristiq was a fail. If we consider it again, she loved the idea of doing the genesight testing first (thanks threecee!). Right now I want to focus on the physical and I should check and see if my talk therapist has any openings. It was Dec 2020 last time I checked and as we all know, that was prime COVID freakout period and she was overbooked. I've also been trying out some of the AARP tai chi and qi gong classes which I like a couple of them. I should see if they have some guided meditation at a convenient time.

Dad's not been feeling too hot and the symptoms sound like long covid ones. Poor old dude. I'm sure that the Sis/BIL church stress doesn't help. Crossing fingers for another bounceback there.

Yesterday JuneBug was onto my plans and hid under the bed so I had to reschedule her appointment for next week. She's not sneezing as much at the moment but when I say that, she starts in again.

Documenting diabetes stuff for me, mostly but anyone with knowledge about this stuff is very welcome to weigh in:

I slept somewhat better last night (took the last med from my previous batch) and the fasting blood sugar this morning was 124. Was hoping for even better but I'm not on meds yet - hopefully the doc will get back to me in a few days - so I'll be ok with that number for now. The day before when I got barely any sleep the fasting was 133. Yuck. So obviously working on better sleep is on the agenda, but when isn't it?

Yesterday at lunch, I had my low-ish-carb rice mixture with salmon, green beans, cucumber and sriracha, an hour after the number was 133 which is pretty decent. But per advice to see when the peaks and such are, this morning I did one hour after and then again two hours after. I packed the pasta salad with some mixed greens and put a little vinaigrette (1 carb per serving) on it since it seemed dry. I also added a packet of tuna when I got to work. An hour after I was at 155. Hm. Also, my stomach didn't like something since half an hour after the test it was all acidy. I think I'm going to pick out the cherry tomatoes since sometimes tomatoes disagree with me and until I get things regulated, I might avoid them. I also think instead of breakfast, I'll pack something else and do tomorrow's pasta salad for lunch with some other form of protein added. The two hour reading was 139 so it's coming down but it will be interesting to see if the omission of the tomatoes helps since the pasta itself is lower carb with more protein and fiber.

Oh I also figured out how to do the stick without causing bruising and a lasting finger ache. Go me!

Before I get to my own stuff, Dad update. He was feeling better the last day and a half though he did sound a little gravelly still. But how did I know he was getting better? Because Mr Antisocial was whining about being lonely and had INSISTED that even if he tested negative that he wasn't going to be allowed out, even if Sis came to collect him (no, no one told him this, he's assuming and couldn't be convinced otherwise). lol. Dude, it wasn't even a WEEK yet. Guess with your newfound short memory, 2020 was ages away.

Then he mentioned last night that he ate something (not sure what) out of his mini-fridge and thinks it might have gone bad since he wasn't feeling well. He didn't have a good night and had to call me at 7:45 this morning to tell me he had black poo again. Sigh. Well you're getting over covid which includes not a lot of moving around for days, you possibly ate something bad, and you have a chronically screwed up stomach. While not completely surprising, it would be nice if he (and I) could get a break for a while. I called him around 11 and he was able to eat a little oatmeal for breakfast but was still feeling cruddy and had been sleeping. Crossing fingers that things start to improve again.

So aaaanyway. Last night I caved and signed up for AARP - cheaper than I thought - and tried out a virtual tai chi zoom session with 180 other people. I was only able to do close to half of it before I had to sit down but considering the guy was sounding a bit out of breath, I didn't feel too bad about only managing part of the class. I knew I was out of shape but damn. It's each Friday so I'll keep trying and hopefully can do a little more each time.

I got my exercise in today, though. Down and up the stairs for a trip to HMart to get veggies, tofu and seafood. For some reason the pharmacy wasn't open at 15 minutes past opening time so I went home and dropped off groceries. Then about 20 minutes later it was down and up the stairs to go get the prescriptions (I also parked behind the deli across the street since it's easier to get in and out of...and got pick 6 there heh). Then a few hours later, down and up the stairs to get a package on the front porch that has some glass containers with bamboo lids to replace some beat up plastic ones.

Then the last annoying one. I saw the fedex guy that I knew he had my new meter. He was in the lot so I thought yay! No more stairs. No such luck. I looked out after he left and no package, nothing on the stairs. I looked at the picture on the confirmation email and it was on the middle of some staircase but which one? No clue but I assumed 475 since that's the usual mistranslation of my address. So I gathered my cardboard and put it in the dumpster and nope, not there. I had to backtrack and it was on the staircase BEYOND mine. Idiots.

To give the new meter (thanks [personal profile] vysila for the recommendation) a try, I unpackaged everything and followed the directions to see if it worked and was all nervous. The reading was 139 which I'd had a low-carb wrap sandwich about an hour before so I think that's super good, isn't it? My poor little finger has a bruise. Awww.

It had been quite some time since the dreaded pap smear since it used to be done by the GP I had that left to become the head of student medicine. I didn't realize that my current GP could do them too and since I was having such a fuss finding a gyno that was either taking new patients this century or didn't have horrific reviews, it was a relief to know I had a one stop shop again. It was also a relief today that it was the least unpleasant one I've had. Fingers crossed that everything tests ok there.

We went over my blood test results and she's ok with my plan to hold off on any new medication and try to improve my numbers through diet tweaks and hopefully some form of exercise, most especially to get the A1c back down the usual pre-diabetic instead of diabetic numbers. The PCOS I have makes me insulin-resistant and even metformin and weight loss didn't make the number improve much. I actually lost about 4 pounds since my visit two weeks ago so we both found that encouraging. I've lowered the amount of simple carbs and done some reasonable substitutions and I'm trying to be more mindful and not nibble on not so healthy things. I think we're going to recheck levels in about 3 months.

Exercise will help the numbers but with the damned wobbly and perpetually inflamed joints, just "taking walks" does me more harm than good. If there were one of those indoor gyms with shock-absorbent floors, that would be helpful. Swimming would be great but I'm honestly scared shitless of walking on wet pool edges, even with pool shoes. One thing that I'd like to pick up again is tai chi, though rather than being a regular community class, it's now a senior community class and I've got a few years before I qualify there. Besides, while I do like that instructor, I don't stick around in the classes since I tend to get tensed up when I'm watched too closely. Yes, I know it's to improve my form but it seemed like she was expecting more from me than others in the class - I get that with fitness and yoga classes when I'm doing well and it makes me uncomfortable. I may see about finding instructional videos in the particular tai chi form that I was doing before and see if the kitties will give me space to practice at home.

She wasn't too concerned about the barely out of range blood levels unless they continue to trend. My B12 did test in range but she said the 500s are a bit low (the range is 400something to 1200). So she'd like me to do about 500 units daily which I was occasionally supplementing anyway.

So I have my assignments and need to keep it up. I did think I lost a little weight since my steering wheel was brushing less against my stomach this last week (hey, I got really stubby legs!)
