missdiane: (Star Trek A night at the Treksbury)
I haven't been anywhere in a good while and haven't even been out much due to the back being all uncooperative. Emily is pretty much stuck inside with her Mom unless her Mom gets picked up for adult day care during the week (and even then, Emily then goes to work so not exactly a break)

But since NJ observes Juneteenth today and Rutgers was closed but the adult day care wasn't, we were able to get out. We were originally thinking a trip to IKEA, but while I really wanted to go, I knew my back wouldn't survive all that walking on those hard floors.

Emily's niece and nephew turned 17 today and they're going to get together for dinner so I asked if she needed to get anything for that. She said just beverages - adult and non-adult. So I picked Emily up and we drove the more scenic route down Rt 27 to a little south of Princeton to Terhune Orchards. Terhune has a winery so she got wine and sparkling apple cider for her dinner there and I got some goodies like fresh radishes, apple salsa, a nice seeded bread loaf and both of us were naughty and got some apple cider donut holes. She also got a gorgeous looking walnut apple pie that she's going to freeze for later. The old tortie shop kitty came out from under the pie table and got pets from some little kids and then wandered right up to Emily for love and then me. Emily may be allergic but kitties LOVE her.

We left and drove through the back roads to come back up to Cherry Grove Farm. They have a tiny farm store with fancy things. We said hello to the baby cows in the barn in front of the store and I let the person feeding them know that one of their chickens had made a break for it and was out by the sign by the road. We both got a few goodies - I'm looking especially forward to trying the jar of caramelized onions with balsamic. When we were exiting, the person that had gone out to find the rogue chicken found her in some tall grass and nabbed her. Emily called me the "Chicken Karen" since I tattled on the chicken and she didn't get to make her jailbreak.

Originally we were thinking of stopping in Princeton itself since we were driving through there anyway but the skies were looking iffy and the traffic had become ridiculous so we skipped that and stopped further north at the - very busy - PA Dutch Market outside of Kingston. We weren't in long but when we were leaving, it had started to rain. The updated forecast had said that rain was going to start near 2pm and it was only a little after 11am but at least we'd had a mini adventure. We were trying to think of what to grab for lunch and ended up all the way back to our town. We opted for a sit-down meal at Chef Tan which I had the griddled tofu dish that I love. Their tea was also just amazing.

It was raining hard when we were leaving and starting to thunder. We got somewhat wet sorting out the foodstuffs and bags in the back seat but since the radar showed even harder rain about to arrive, it was the best option. I dropped her off and she scuttled inside her house with her bags and I got rather wet getting inside my place with my assortment of bags since I didn't trust going up the outdoor stairs without slipping so I walked around the apartment building to the indoor stairs.

After putting things away and giving the kitties a treat (and changing into dry clothing), I zonked out for a nap for a good hour, accompanied for a short while by JonJon. But it was a really nice day.
