The last time I went to a stylist was with Emily's back in March. I had high hopes since she gave Emily a cool asymmetrical look. This is what she gave me back then and I wasn't really happy with it. It wasn't what I asked for which was to have the sides and back clippered short and some volume on top. I mean it was ok but I felt like I got an "old lady" cut


I asked some folks on the local community for recommendations because the issue is that some stylists don't seem to be comfortable with using clippers and some barbers aren't comfortable with doing women. I got several recommendations for a salon just right down the street and I looked at her Instagram and saw some examples I liked.

We chatted and I said I wanted "edgy but not Karen" and "Something that might annoy my boss but not enough that she can object." That amused her and she said, "Yeah, let's go for it." I am LOVING my buzzzzzzz on the side and back and she had fun today with mousse and gave me a fauxhawk but if I wash it, the one side will flop over messily like I'll probably wear it most days.


I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. Though I don't really wear makeup, I'm feeling like I might want to get some bright red lipstick for fun. Think cherry red or another hue?

cherry red would be nice. Magenta maybe. As long as you like your hair, that's all the matters (however, I like looks like easy care to me!)

Easy care is DEFINITELY what I like. Also, since I still wear a mask at work, having the hair away from my ears is so much more comfortable.

It would be fun sometime to have them put in some colored highlights but I'd have to budget more time (and money!) for that.

I did a color consultation thing yeeeeeeears ago and was told I was a "winter" - I do like the cochineal shade between true red and fuschia. I'll have to actually go into a store and find something similar

I so envy you. I cannot wear red, never could because I have so much red in my natural coloring. And you'd look FABULOUS!

What colors are meant to compliment your undertones? Brownish purples? Orange?

I get yellow undertones sometimes so I try to stick away from anything that overemphasizes that. I don't really wear lipstick much but with a funky haircut, I think it would compliment it. I'll have to get the kind that stays on a long time

I am a Spring. I am careful about anything with yellow in it because when I wear yellow my skin looks green. But green is my favorite color and when I wear teal I ALWAYS get told I look great. When I wore makeup, it was always my eyes that I paid the most attention to. And my lipstick was boring pink.

Actually the lip color in the picture suits very well. I'd stay close to that for everyday and go with something brighter just for evenings or special events.
