Bracing for heat impact
Jul. 15th, 2024 09:09 amYesterday Emily and I did a trip down to Princeton to go to Wegmans and a couple of the orchard/farm stores. Thank goodness she loaded up a cooler with ice packs since even just being in the orchard store for ten minutes, the car was HOT when we got in.
We ended up getting some afternoon storms that were both wonderfully relieving but also a reminder of what could happen since while it brought the temperature down so that the AC wasn't struggling so much, the power flickered several times through the afternoon. Today is supposed to be 97 or so and tomorrow is expected to crack 100 and if I lose power at home, it is most definitely going to SUCK. I gathered the four usb-rechargeable fans that I have (two hand fans, one little desk fan and one that's about 12 or so inches tall). I made sure to charge ALL of them up so that if there's an outage in this nasty weather, I have at least some way to make it somewhat livable. I also found the mat that the cats won't use but might if it gets too disgusting inside that has gel inside so the surface stays cool and made sure my lantern and flashlights are in current working order. I'll make sure the phone is always charged and the water bottle is kept full so that I'm as prepared as I can be.
Even with all the shopping I did, I didn't shop as smart as I should have. I should have picked up maybe some grapes or melon and some easy-to-grab protein. I think when I get home today, I'll make a batch of tofu "egg" salad since that will work well for a good protein. I've been getting weekly grocery deliveries from Fresh Direct on Thursdays so I'll make sure to get healthy items since summer is going to be kicking our butts for the foreseeable future and the worse I eat, the worse I'll feel.
Ready to hunker down.
