I think I found what I could do after I retire (or more, have my 25 years which should come in 2027 and be over 55 so can qualify for full retirement benefits from this place and am still unappreciated and underpaid). Yet again someone reached out to me as recommended by someone else for my "expertise." In this case it's the chief business officer from another one of our regional Universities which is new to their job and can't seem to get good advice from the other people she works there.
I get this a LOT, which was why for a time I was the Chair of the regional organization. I made an offhand comment to Emily that when I retire, I should become a consultant to land-grant Universities for best practices as to how to run their research administration for Capacity funding.
She said that was a good thought and you know, it really is. I never thought of being some sort of independent consultant but TBH, I know my shit, I keep up on all the latest news and I'm always asked for help so I should get paid for it. I can't do it currently since it would be a conflict of interest with my current job. Or would it? Hm...
