Going to have to suck it up
Feb. 26th, 2026 03:57 pmI've been feeling off for a few weeks which isn't unexpected with all the stress of the house and the crazy winter weather and work and probably menopause stuff (You know that left behind ovary ain't doing shit). I can't stay asleep, I'm constantly achy, my stomach's a mess, my blood sugar isn't testing that well, just ALL THE YUCK. I mentally told myself even though I turned her down before, since on top of everything, I gained 7 pounds in the last three months, if she asks about taking a GLP-1, I'll say yes this time. I'm paranoid as hell about side effects and things like pancreatitis (since I'm the kween of side effects) but I'm more afraid of my health continuing to decline and my diabetes getting worse so I need the chemical help. Hey
spiffikins it'll be monjauro so if you have any advice, let me know all the gory details.
The snow has compacted with the somewhat warmer temperatures but I still need to dig a path to my driver's side car door and push the snow off the top and front. If the script gets filled by then, I'll go pick it up. But I won't start the first dose until after I do my regular blood tests, since I want to know my baseline. I made an appointment for my fasting tests for Tuesday morning so maybe I'll start it then if I have it in hand.
Oh and just for tracking's sake, got the pneumonia jab. Guess that makes me officially old (or in piss poor health).

- Vitamin D
- Vitamin B12
- Magnesium
And I was like, *damn* - I was taking the first three for ages BEFORE starting the mounjaro, and started taking magnesium in the last year :D
Who knew? Maybe I lucked into being already taking the things that made it work well?
I can never find things on IG again - but I found a link that talks about some of these - supplements for glp-1
Anyway - it may be worth asking your Doctor, what she thinks?
Other than that - I started on 5mg, there is a 2.5mg but honestly it does nothing - it's just to check if you have side effects - and even the 5mg is not going to do much, which is why my Dr started me on that one - saves a month of taking 2.5mg and not seeing any benefit :D
Make sure to go to the mounjaro website and get the coupon - it will bring your copay down and is good through the end of December

Date: 2026-02-27 05:44 am (UTC)I am starting on 2.5 but specifically because of the fear of side effects. Since I already take and will continue to take metformin, I'll need to start slowly for the potential gastro issues alone. But that's fine since she said if I'm tolerating things fine, get hold of them when I'm on week 3 and they'll bump it to the 5 for the next month's. Even if the 2.5 helps get my blood sugar better regulated, it's worth the baby crawling start.
I haven't got the alert from my pharmacy to pick up yet but according to my insurance website, it's $10/month for me and if it works for me, I can have my insurance send three months worth for $15. You can see why I tolerate a lot of nonsense at work since the insurance is good. It's also why I need to work at Rutgers at least another year and an half since after 25 years, I can take the health plan with me after retirement and it also supplements when I'd go on Medicare as an old fart.

Woah. Impressive! My copay is $80 without the coupon, and that's for ONE month - my insurance is bullshit and won't let me do 90 days of ANYTHING through standard pharmacies, I have to go through fucking Optum - and even then my copay is not particularly less, it's just...the convenience of doing 90 days at a time.

yessss...work that system! My friend Lisa was a nurse and has a similar health plan that she gets to keep forever from her work, as a supplement to Medicare.
