I know my boy can be dramatic but geez. He cried all the way home and tried to get out of his carrier (that was such a fun 50 minute drive). Now that we're home, he's had a snack but he's still wandering around and intermittently meowing and just obviously confused. Poor dude.

The girl is WTFing and hiding if he comes near her, obviously she is NOT pleased and hisses and swats. I hope we can get things to a dull roar soon.

Oh and according to the vet, they did give him gabapentin about 8am. Either it wore off quickly or I wonder what the hell it would have been like if they didn't give it to him. I have some tablets to possibly give him more tonight. We'll see how that goes.

I'm already tired.

I am so sorry. It's difficult enough when they are sick and you KNOW what's wrong.

Physically aside from being currently radioactive, he should be fine. They noted he was mostly quiet during his several day stay but the moment the vet tech was bringing him out, he was singing the sad song of his people.

I'm guessing it's just trauma since this was the longest he's ever been away from home since I've had him for 10 years but yeah, I feel badly that I can't seem to comfort him much

This too shall pass. Hopefully quite quickly. And when you can snuggle again all will be right with the world. And let's hope JuneBug gets over her snit soon.

I've had to risk radiation exposure to give the dork some snuggles last night. Dude is a mess and that gabapentin doesn't do diddly squat.

She's still growing and hissing and swatting but I have caught her a few times forgetting so hopefully THAT will at least stop in a couple of days

I SO understand the cuddling. I too did that, although I did last a little bit longer than you did. The docs said that really it was just an overabundance of caution about that, since the radiation level was so low by the time he came home. I presume that is still true.

They never gave Clow any kind of pain relief at all, I wonder if that too is new.

Oh, excellent that JuneBug is 'forgetting' to swat and hiss at times. That means she's getting used to the new normal. Again.

I'm just so glad the treatment was successful. How many rechecks are required? Seems to me Clowie had checks and blood draws every two weeks for a while and then monthly for several months.

They were giving him gabapentin for anxiety. Clearly he is like his hooman mom where some things just don’t work.

JonJon’s thyroid levels weren’t super high so I doubt they had to use a very strong dose of I131. But they were high enough to cause issues and only would have worsened without treatment. I’m to schedule a follow up 6 weeks out with my vet which I’m waiting for them to respond. After that, they recommmend a 6 month appointment with a cardiologist to make sure the mild heart issues he has are ok since it could have been caused by the thyroid being out of whack.

I’m sure the avoidance is precautionary. I’m scooping and hand washing as recommended and trying not to let him flop on me for TOO long (much to his sadness). It does weird me out a bit when he comes by and boops me with his wet nose though lol

I hope he's calming down and figured out he is home by now.
Usually being fed makes mine settle, but the time he had anesthesia for dental work it took a bit longer for his memory to come back.

You underestimate the whining power of my boy. Clearly he has some severe separation anxiety and gabapentin seems ineffective.
