missdiane: (Kitty checking out bird)

Yesterday's temperatures were just brutal. It was bad enough being in the mid 90s, but it was also rainforest-jungle levels of humidity. Thankfully my AC units, while struggling a bit, managed to keep it reasonable inside. Today is supposed to crack 90 again but we already had a little rain this morning and are expected to have a little more later today so I'm crossing my fingers that it will come sooner rather than later and knock the temperature down some. After today, the highs are supposed to be back down in the lower 80s and I even see the promise of possibly getting down to 59 in the evening.

Last night I received a DM on Facebook from one of the few family members that I have friended. I don't use FB much but to post stuff for Mom when she can get to the computer and keep up on local goings-on. The cousin that I don't think I've ever met in person let me know about my uncle Bert and that he's probably not going to make it much longer. I knew from my parents several days ago that he wasn't doing well and hasn't for some time but according to what I was forwarded last night, evidently organs are failing and his heart function is down to 5% so it seems it's just a matter of time. Poor Dad. He's the oldest of five boys and the last one left. But it also disappointed me that the cousin messaged me since they weren't sure if Dad understood how bad it was and if the siblings heard so I texted my brother and sister and evidently they already knew and had already talked to the parents. Uh...what? So it's ok to be the one to unload on or fix something or help order groceries and everything else and am the only one that checks in with the parents on a daily basis but I'm the last to know this and found out from a cousin on Facebook? Well...I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, got the annual Squishing of the Titties done this morning and since I was in the area, I got a nice breakfast at Frappe Joe's (a purely plants sandwich on a multigrain croissant and a coffee with some sort of sugar free syrup since I told the owner to surprise me). I then braved the few raindrops to roll by Whole Paycheck and get a few things. The vegan kimchi brand that I like was on sale and inspired by [personal profile] halfmoon_mollie   I picked up these to make a vinaigrette so I'll eat more salad. I also got some gorgeous asparagus that it would be nice with a lemon vinaigrette

I also saw some promotional stuff for the Friday local farmers market and braved the weather to go to the soup place to get a few tasty ones. I hope the honeydew one thaws so I can eat it today. It will be so nice on a hot day

Since I'm feeling tired, a little achy and somewhat broody, I'll probably just play some Sims and take occasional naps and maybe if I can concentrate for more than a few minutes, try to read some of a cozy mystery.

Hope all is well with everyone. <3

I bought some grapeseed oil at Aldi on Wed and decided I really don't like romaine lettuce (can't eat iceberg...) so I'll have to get some butter lettuce next grocery foray. I woke up hot and sweaty last night, for the first time this summer. And of course the Bon was stretched out beside me. Temp is down to 74, thunder storm rumbled through and I'm sending it on the way to you.

I suspect it might be where I bought the romaine. Aldis produce is not local and it was tough. I'll try again with Wegmans or, if I can get it, Farmer's Market lettuce.
