Auntie Amy in the icon played for the troops during WWI (yes I, not II) and later was a music teacher.
My 16-year-old niece composed and conducted a song for her music summer camp and posted it to her YT channel. Dang!
She plays several string instruments and evidently some colleges are reaching out to her. I'll have to poke her and see which ones. Would be nice if she could go to Mason Gross. If so, I'd have to find some way to move so that she could stay with me. I don't see her doing any dorm living since she's a homeschooled kiddo and socially awkward.

Date: 2023-07-30 02:46 pm (UTC)When I was bellydancing years ago, I also got a doumbek and was doing well, but it became too difficult to sit on the floor to drum. I did think it was interesting when I was practicing with a group that I didn't find it at all difficult to play with a metronome while the others struggled. Makes me wonder what could have been if I'd have started with something as a child.

Date: 2023-07-30 03:39 pm (UTC)I was given piano lessons for 9 years, I can play guitar (except when I get cramps in my hand...). I can read music. That's pretty much all it did for me.
