Watch out for scammers
Sep. 6th, 2025 10:36 amEmily got SO close to being completely taken in by bank scammers last night. They are pretty sophisticated. They first texted her saying it was from X Bank and did she make a purchase? They followed up from the supposed fraud department with a call and since she wasn't on her A game, they did get into her account. It went on for a good 45 minutes or so and at one point had convinced her that it was an internal bank RICO issue (which via google is entirely too common with banks). They told her that she'd get another call from some form of law enforcement on Saturday but she got another call about an hour later claiming they were the FBI and were going to have her go into her local branch tomorrow to meet them and supposedly draw out the funding and close the account.
Fortunately her spidey senses FINALLY started tingling and she googled the 800 number and found out that it was likely fake so she called the bank and talked to the fraud department who didn't have any of what these people were talking about and got her back into her account so user id and password are all changed now and hopefully that's the end of it.
However, she was wondering whether they were going to call at 10am today like they claimed and I told her if they did, let ME talk to them. They did and hehehehehehehe, yeah, I played along with this guy with the fake nasally voice trying to tell me that somehow calling the bank's fraud department they wouldn't seeee any of this "private" investigation, blah blah blah. That's when I was 100% certain they were full of shit and told them exactly that.
And they hung up. Awww, phooey! I was having fun! Hell, I was all ready to meet these motherfuckers at the local branch to get pictures of them and any of their vehicles. Don't FUCK with my people.
So if you get a call from 1-800-981-6885, it is FAKE.
