Been quite the week

Well, Uncle Bert finally decided it was time. When I saw it on FB, I noted that Sis had "liked" it several hours before and had thought that someone would have informed Dad but I went home from work and gave him a call. Yeah, they hadn't yet told him and it hit him pretty hard even though we knew it was coming. I've been talking to him lots to keep his spirits up and on Saturday, I'm going to find a place online to livestream the Rutgers/OSU game and he'll watch it on his end so we'll watch it "together."

I just tried calling and keep getting a message that my call can't go through so I hope it's just someone chatting with him and not that there's anything wrong with the phones at the facility. If I have trouble later, I'll call their main line and see if they can transfer or see if his phone is off the hook or something.

Anyway, the funeral home only had Mom's obit online so I sprung the obnoxious amount of money to put an edited version on legacy and in the hometown paper (to catch folks they knew that likely don't go online to check). On the food porn forum I belong to on FB, someone reposted the thing where people print recipes on graves so I spent enough to put a recipe of Mom's. It's for a raspberry cake that the BIL loves and used to ask her to make for his birthday. It's here.

Aaaaaaand now both of the phone lines in Dad's room are down. It took me hours and pestering multiple people to get them to say they'll get maintenance on it. I got to talk to Dad for just a couple of minutes but at least he knows I've been trying and that they'll be working on it.

The old dude could REALLY use a break.
