Cheap food ftw?
5 March 2023 07:35I'm trying something new today - the Too Good to Go App where you can get a surprise bag of food that they'd otherwise be throwing away at the end of the day for cheap. I've seen Click for Taz do this in the UK a few times about a year ago. Example:
Now obviously places like London, you're going to have a TON of options. Not so many here. Being New Jersey, it's pretty much tons of bagel shops and some pizza places. But I'd been thinking about getting some bagels, slicing them in half and freezing them. (The slicing being so I can eat half of one at a time since NJ bagels are HUGE). I was nervous about doing it but hell, I'm nervous about everything these days. But it wasn't that much to try so why not, eh?
So I've reserved a pickup for $3.99 for a somewhat nearby place called Sam I am Bagels. It has 4.8 stars out of 5 with 160 reviews so hey, gotta be decent! I don't know if they'll just hand me a bag or ask me anything but I'll see. If I get anything that I don't want to eat, I can either share it with Emily or take it to work tomorrow to see if anyone there wants it.
It's not available everywhere in the US since it seems like it's rather new outside of the big cities, but feel free to download the app and see if there's anyplace near you!
The other place that I'm tempted to try is the George Street Co-op since their deal is that for $3.99 you can pick out $12 worth of their organic produce that's going slightly off. The only reason I haven't jumped on that is because getting and parking at that location is a pain in the butt. But if today goes ok, maybe I'll try them too.
