As much as this report seems depressing, I like what they're doing now.

I especially like the idea of the apartments (condos would be nice too) on the upper level and shopping on the lower level. It goes back to when you didn't have to get into your car to go to the store to get something. Wouldn't it be nice if you ran out of an ingredient while cooking and all you had to do was walk to the other end of the mall to get it?

There are building like that in the bigger cities where you can live, work, shop, do everything you want and never need to leave the building. It seems a little sad to me to never go outside, even if it's just to get the mail or walk to the car.

However, I do love abandoned malls. They are fascinating and it's good that they are being reclaimed.

I see where you're coming from but isn't there also more of a chance that there's a community within that building rather than people who get isolated commuting alone, living alone, working in a cube?

I do now have an idea for another related post, though ;)

Not necessarily. We lived in a large block building and didn't know our next door neighbors. I think people isolate themselves because it's largely their choice. It's better to get out into the world and associate with others. Plus I think people spend way too much time inside anyhow.

We had one of our malls turned into a community college and library back in Reno. I thought it was a great choice. Wonder what they will do with ours. They are both one story.
