Well today ended up being more of an adventure than originally planned. I needed to go out to Petco and pick up some litter since the bathroom box really needed emptied, scrubbed and refilled. The bathroom itself was also overdue for a good cleaning (and I wanted to use the new steam mop I got refurbished) so I thought an easy trip out this morning to get that and a couple of plants for the fire escape and I'd be in and done before noon.

NOPE. Welllll, shit. After driving to two different Petco stores and then calling Petsmart from the parking lot of the second, it seems World's Best Cat Litter has decided to discontinue the Advanced Formula I use. Either that or they've done something else more shifty (which I'm suspecting) which is to take the formula I buy - which you can only seem to get at pet stores or online - and repackage it, pretend it's even more super duper fabulous...and jack up the price.

Well fuck them. I won't be drawn in by marketing bullshit, I went to Target and bought a bag of the regular WBCL that I first used a few years ago with the kitties (since that's what the rescue uses) and have mixed it half with the little bit of the advanced I still had left at home. I also ordered a couple of bags of the Advanced that Chewy.com is still selling and will start the - sometimes annoying - process of easing the kitties back over to the old kind. I may have to sprinkle a little more deodorizer after scooping but as long as the kitties are fine with things and it performs ok with scooping, they're not getting extra money out of me. That and it'll be nice to eventually be back to the brand that I can also buy at places like Target and grocery stores.

Anyway, I did get the bathroom all cleaned, the trash taken out and carefully lugged up the bag of soil to plant my mini bits of pretty on the porch. Hopefully everything blossoms nicely.

I'm sitting with an ice pack on the back to make sure things don't flare up but other than that flurry of activity, I'll be taking it easy the rest of the day. Tomorrow starts what will likely be a long, tiring week.

I hate when something you buy regularly and love (whether it's food or kitty litter or whatever), and they stop doing it or repackage it when there was nothing wrong with it in the first place, and it's only to make more of the $$$.

Those plants look lovely! Hope your back is feeling better. * snuggly huggles *

I hate it when that happens. I wanted to buy a certain type of litter box, but Target apparently changes the box style every time it re-orders.

I hope the week isn't too bad for you!

That's annoying! Chewy does have a good selection of boxes if you might find it there? I have three different boxes. One I get from Petco - this one which you can buy a rim which is required for Miss JuneBug the digger to China. That is the only one that's not too small but juuuuust fits between the toilet and the vanity in the bathroom.

This one from Chewy is in the living room next to the TV stand and is hidden by a Chinese screen. Mostly used by JuneBug but JonJon will opt for it if his favored box is dirty and Mom isn't home. This HUGE ass box from Chewy is in the hall linen closet (wish I could take the door off the closet but they painted the hinges). It's used by both kitties first usually.

They're both paving our lot and doing construction around our building this week so it's gong to be quite the adventure this week. I'm making a point to get in early every day to get a decent spot in front of the building. Hopefully they don't try to schedule any PT appointments in the morning.

Sadly, they all see to aim for the front when digging... Alas.

Good luck dodging the construction.

Ah! Well then I highly recommend this box! I'll be getting it again next time, probably. It's huge and has the removable rim that has a lip that does a decent job of blocking Junie's energetic digging.

I'll remember that the next time that I'm in the market for a cat box. Thanks!

It is annoying to me when companies keep changing the products and availability. I want to be able to go in, buy what I need, get out - not have to decide what option to get bc what I've been buying is no longer carried.

How is the back? And all this added 'work' to get errands one. The plants look nice though. :)

Litter changes, one of the brands has added more scent and it is cloying to me - back to the basic Scoop Away for us. I think it was one of the variations of Arm and Hammer that went overboard is odor covering scents. Tidy Cat has the big buckets Mike will get, but they can be iffy on scent too - the Febreze scented ones I have to buy plain litter to mix in and cut down on the scent. The cats are fairly okay w. whatever litter but I know the stronger scents put them off a little although they did not go outside the boxes. I used the plain litter on top and added baking soda in hopes of soaking up some of the scent. More work than is needed! I need to be able to buy a box of litter and that be it.
