I am so rolling my eyes. Good gravy Marie my siblings are absolute travel-crazy dingbats. So Sis has been stressing out while trying to clear out the parents' apartment before they need to give back the keys and wrap that up. It would have been done sooner but hey, last month she couldn't possibly cancel her umpteenth vacation for the year, to Vegas.
She and BIL contacted me the other day to see if it would be ok if they brought me Mom's ashes. We didn't think that it would be smart to have Mom's cute little barrel with Dad and he agreed since someone might make off with it at the nursing home. So they were thinking of driving over sometime. Mind, they used to drive to Asheville NC which is about an hour's difference from coming here. Ok, reasonable enough. I'd thought maybe they'd do it sometime late December or something.
Wellllll, nope. Now they're coming Thanksgiving weekend. Uh...what? Thought you were cleaning and packing and shit? Oh and it gets better. They aren't driving now, they're driving two hours up to Cleveland and flying and they want to stay IN NYC. If they think that I'm hopping on NJ Transit to NYC on THANKSGIVING WEEKEND with the sole purpose of retrieving my mother's ashes, they are smoking a special kind of crack. Nope, if they want to pass Mom off, they can get on the choo choo themselves and I'll pick them up at one of the three train stations that I'm comfortable with going to. If they want to have a meal or at all hang out, fine. If not, they can hop right back on the train and go play around with the crazy crowds in the city.
Rolling my eyes at these dorks. I swear.
Note: "siblings" above references both brother and sister since they both travel lots but I won't be talking about my prick of a brother.

We wouldn't even know where we could really have buried her. We weren't fond of our hometown, I don't know if she's ever visited her father's headstone (he died when she was 9) and she didn't exactly get along with her mother (neither did I, her Mom was awful). Dad doesn't want to be buried due to the same reasons and the expense and ecological reasons so Mom came around to the idea of being cremated.

Date: 8 Nov 2023 22:18 (UTC)In PA, the death certificate is obtained from the doctor by the undertaker within one business day of the undertaker being called in. (Although for cremations, there is a two day hold after the death certificate is signed while the coroner decides if the family is trying to destroy evidence.) I was handed the death certificates along with the cremation certificate and burial certificate at the funeral.

Date: 8 Nov 2023 05:05 (UTC)What's the big rush? Can the mini barrel not stay at your sister's place for a while, if they think it's not a good thing to have it where your Dad is staying?
Weird!
