I do wonder sometimes if I'm the only one that loathes compliments from their boss. Lady, I already know that I'm extremely knowledgeable about my job and all kinds of related things. Yeah, yeah, I'm fucking brilliant and shit. Too damned bad that this never translates into a higher title or pay. Nope, this patronizing bullshit feebly disguised as high praise only ever translates into being given extra projects that are supposed to be things that YOU get paid the obnoxious amount of money to do but never seem to have the time to do. Whatever.

Put in an application to something potentially viable and reached out to someone I know from the place - it's the place I worked when I first came to Rutgers but not for the guy that I used to work for (thank goodness). It would monetarily a lateral move but if I get an interview and it sounds worthwhile, I'll blow this popsicle stand.

Lateral moves, sometimes, are wise. And can lead to better stuff. they help get you unstuck.

Good luck w. the job stuff, maybe the lateral move will lead to something better - at least get you out of where you are now.
I always hated the compliment shit bc I knew it meant extra work for me and like you it is work boss should be doing and is getting paid to do. That never changes, does it? Is that in some secret Boss Manual on how to make the subordinates do your work?

She has been reading leadership hooha and she parrots that garbage since she can't actually constructively learn from it. She's a terrible boss.

I made a latral move at one point in my career that made me a lot happier. If I had held on where I was for another year or two, I might have inheirited the next position above me, but I realized I really didn't want that job. Happier can better than higher.

If I did a specific thing really well, then I appreciate a complement as long as it isn't too gushing. Compliments that are just general or for things I figure any idiot could do are a bit insulting.

I've been holding on for now getting close to 9 years to get advanced to even close to where I should be or to just get an assistant to take some of the load off. It's never going to happen so I'm not restricting myself to positions that are higher. Hell, if a job looks good enough and isn't a pay cut but one pay range lower, I'll consider it. I need to stick it out here or another State-backed institution for 3 1/2 more years to qualify for Rutgers retirement benefits and payouts which are excellent.

None of her compliments are EVER genuine. At least not to me. They're always a segue to some other exploitative bullshit and it irritates me that she thinks I'm dumb enough not to see through her dog and pony show. Also, if I'm SO amazing, why am I NEVER rewarded for it?
