Text exchange with Sis. Evidently the tip of the hissy fit iceberg according to Dad

Dad's been fretting about the forced churching to me and I told him to be honest with them about how he feels about it. That didn't go over well and sounds like they're blaming most of it on me. Oh for fuck's sake. Ok, fine. I'm the bad influence telling him how wrong church is (which I'm not doing). No, hasn't a thing to do with us not ever growing up going to church (got splashed Lutheran as a baby but who knows when we stopped bothering). Dad's been very clear about how he's an atheist for many years. He agreed to go to church with them some time ago when they asked to SEE THEM but nope, Sis had to tell me how he's "feeling the spirit" (and got pissed off when I chuckled at that).
Honestly, if he had some sudden 180 and decided to become religious, if that's what would give him happiness and peace, I am in NO WAY going to discourage him. Too bad you can't do the same but guess you gotta score your points for saving someone. What, do they give out toasters for every soul you score? Oh wait, probably crypto - JESUScoin or something.
Too bad you had no interest in saving Mom who was kind of a believer. You didn't like her so being good right wing "Christians", you didn't care there. Mmmhmm. I see you.
Poor guy agreed to go ahead and go with them to try to keep the peace and also so they don't abandon him again. Makes me sad but I'm not picking any fights with people who don't consider the feelings and beliefs of others.

Religion unites and separates more people. I never thought that was the goal.

Date: 11 Feb 2024 21:03 (UTC)Reminds me of a period in high school, when this girl Shannon started being really friendly to me, and kept inviting me to "Friday Night Live" - which was a teen church gathering on Friday evenings. Finally, I agreed to come - and it was insane.
I don't remember much about the sermonizing - but I *do* remember that it was held in a theatre (the church was huge) - and at some point, someone in the catwalk up above the stage, behind where the lights are - dropped a CHICKEN from that vantage point.
I have no recollection WHY they did this or what the context was. But there were gasps and shock when the chicken went THUD - and the kids who were organizing the skit or whatever it was, all came running out, shouting "I thought chickens could fly!"
The event broke up soon after that.
The next time Shannon came all friendly, she wanted to invite me to come to church on Sunday with her and her family. And I looked at her, and asked her - in all seriousness - "Do you have a soul quota that you need to save, or something?"
LOL - she backed off and went off to find someone else to convert!
