Boy are we all falling apart or WHAT? Sending good wishes and healing vibes to my buddies going THROUGH IT. You know who you are. <3 <3
Have my own tale of woe to add to the collection. Cut for TMI stuff
As noted back on the 22nd, doc diagnosed lymph node swelling and other symptoms I could think of as fungal infection and she actually prescribed oral meds and powder and to continue to use medicated dandruff shampoo in the area. After the first pill, the swelling did improve and by the third pill about a week later, the swelling was nearly gone. Great!
Or not.
Starting early yesterday morning, the swelling started again and was even stinging and I had bladder owies (granted, I have IC so those can happen whenever for funsies and why I can't drink carbonation anymore, hmph). I took one of those AZO tablets that turn your pee bright orange and tried to make another appointment with my doctor. Unfortunately the earliest they could get me in, even for a virtual appointment is the 18th. Honestly, my GP and her office have been terrible lately and although they FINALLY filled my metformin, I never received an actual message from them at all and they didn't address the elevated BUN/creatinine levels so I guess they're...fine?
Anyhoo, I was getting concerned about it more and more last night as I was also feeling generally crappy and so I made an online appointment for 8:15am with an urgent care that had mostly respectable reviews. I drove over this morning and did the pee in the cup (enjoy the color LOLL) and went through the recent changes and experience and she did think there was a bit more to the bump and asked if she could give it a poke. Hell, fine with me. My REGULAR doctor didn't do that and it was even bigger then.
Well the pee didn't indicate a UTI but the poke indicated a quick growing abscess. Also, since the fungal meds were helping, she thinks that's still also an issue so lovely - fungal AND bacterial issues. I have a big ol bandage in the area and am instructed to do wet compresses for drainage. I think I have some tegaderm patches that Emily gave me ages ago that I'll change out to when I get home. I'm at work and will call the pharmacy shortly to see if they received my prescriptions for antibiotics and antifungals.Wheeeeeeee.

Date: 5 Jun 2024 16:43 (UTC)I'm gonna make the regular doc do the follow up. And yeah, I'll politely lay on some guilt from not doing a thorough job of checking me out the first time.

Date: 5 Jun 2024 16:41 (UTC)I'll have a calm expression on my face while I let the GP know about today. I hope she squirms. I know one thing she'll say is "oh, call us if you can't get a sooner appointment!" and I will let her know that I did and firmly got told that the 18th was the soonest. I'll also ask if she read my messages or checked my labs and whether she has any brilliant insight there.
This practice is supposed to be one of those supportive concierge ones and clearly they've taken on too many patients or are having administrative issues since they're just about to change names again from another takeover.
I did some looking on my insurance site about available doctors and there's one that's a possibility that's connected with a larger medical group that I already deal with ok enough when I was going to the rheumatologist. I get that they're overworked and understaffed but you're right that the state of medicine is abysmal. I hear it's global, unfortunately.
