Another box ticked off
Aug. 31st, 2025 04:40 pmGot a brief message from my gyno's office that the endometrial biopsy is benign so we're cleared to proceed with the hysterectomy without having to involve oncology.
The only things left before surgery are the ultrasound (HATE that damned wand) on the morning of the 8th and the type and screen near the end of September.
I notice on my move that my microwavable heating pads have disappeared but they were old and less effective. I also thought that I had an electric heating pad but that seems to have also been lost in the shuffle. So I need to get some replacements. One, because I'll want it after surgery (I hear it's very much needed) and the other because Emily has followed in the footsteps of her family and keeps the place colder than I'm used to. Blankets do a good bit but I'm getting cold old lady feet.
I'm pondering rather than the microwavable heating pads, getting an electric heating pad (with auto shut off) for the bed and then maybe an old fashioned hot water bottle for when I'm hanging out in the recliner since I won't have a nearby outlet there. Thoughts?

Date: 2025-08-31 11:43 pm (UTC)I find that the microwavable pads are way more portable than the electric ones. I finally gave up and bought an electric one. So my advice is one of each, fwiw.

Date: 2025-09-01 11:29 am (UTC)I ended up getting two - a hot water bottle in a cozy from a place on etsy and then an electric one that is weighted. I'm sure that the latter will be co-opted by the boy frequently lol

Date: 2025-09-01 04:13 pm (UTC)Hooray for good biopsy results and not needing anything other than the surgery. I had a complete hysterectomy about 20 years ago now and was grateful to have a fairly easy recovery, but of course I was much younger then! I hope your recovery is equally easy. I have always used an electric heating pad but a microwavable one should be equally effective when needed. Never used a hot water bottle. Oh man, cold old lady feet syndrome! Yep, it really is a thing.
Be careful using the recliner if you have to push with your feet to make it work. That will put stress on your abdomen and will be painful.

Date: 2025-09-04 10:22 pm (UTC)The hot water bottle, l had one and used boiling water and eventually the bag developed holes in it! At the time l didn't know it was the boiling water! The 2nd one I used hot water from the tap and l think it is still somewhere in the bathroom cabinet. The heating pad we now have and one I got for Whitney have an auto-off after 2 hours. I tend to lie on it when on the sofa and I don't like it shutting off on its own but it's probably best it's not on 24/7.
A funny memory of cats and heating pads. One time l uas on sofa using the heating pad and our cat Oscar jumped up and was snuggling against my stomach. Oscar is such a sweet boy, he snuggled against my body and he was also pushing against me as I'm spooning him. He kept pushing against me and l'd move back a bit thinking he needed more room bc he's on the front edge of the sofa. Finally realized he was wanting more of the heating pad under him and he wanted me off! LOL
