A pleasant surprise box
Sep. 7th, 2025 07:57 pmWe decided to take advantage of a deal from FreshDirect delivery this week. It said if we spent $200 by September 7 that we'd receive a surprise box. It looked like by the picture that it was produce. We did get a few indulgences but mostly we stocked up on things that we'd steadily go through like a case of the sparkling water that Emily likes and some sales and such. We had it scheduled to arrive between 6-8am this morning since we're usually up early anyway.
The poor FreshDirect guy had to deliver things in the steady downpour but he was still really friendly. We were concerned that we wouldn't get our surprise box because one of the things purchased by weight ended up being a lot lighter than expected. But we did get it!
It contained this:
Two large apples
Two large tomatoes and a pint of grape tomatoes
Two ripe avocados
Three large bananas
Two plums
A head of leaf lettuce
Two ears of corn
A container of mini cucumbers
I'll say that we scored pretty well! Since we have a big amount of fruits and vegetables now, we're going to try to do a better job of eating it before it goes off. The only iffy things are the plums (I don't know if I like plums, I'm weird about fruit) and bananas (Emily won't touch them and lately I've not been a fan). On the bananas, I cut them up and froze them since if nothing else, a smoothie with banana and the unsweetened peanut butter I have along with some form of milk would probably be a good breakfast.
In other goings on, I have to remember that I have my ultrasound early tomorrow morning (hate that wand) to check the status of my guests before they're yanked out. Way to start a Monday, eh?
I also am going to try to complete a household project this week. I noticed a while ago that there was a broken tile near the rimless walk-in shower and also, they didn't put a tile where they should outside the shower and that area is showing mold/rot - how not surprising that her sister and the family never did anything about it. We found some extra tiles in the basement but we needed to order a few things to come this week. Along with trying my hand at trying to remove that broken tile and replace it and add a new tile where it's needed, I'm also going to sit on the floor of the shower and put fresh caulk all along the edges of the shower. Tomorrow our cleaning gal comes so she'll give the bathroom a deep scrub and we'll both take our showers that night. So then the next day, I'll do the re-caulking. The tile bit will probably be next weekend.

One dish that we'll have to have soon that I was surprised that she makes and likes it is pork (either chops or pieces or boneless shoulder) and potatoes and carrots cooked in a combination of tomato soup and Worcestershire sauce.
