I saw on some sites that people weren't getting trick or treaters due to trunk or treat or other community events. Our town had one just around the corner. We also heard from Emily's sister that they never got many.
Well clearly they weren't sending out the right vibes because we got PLENTY. Also, the most popular item wasn't candy, it was RAMEN. Holy moly the GLEE for it. Then again, the majority of our first group were dressed up as characters from KPop Demon Hunters which helped. Interestingly, other popular items picked by the kids were applesauce and the few actual apples I tossed in the candy bin. Guess we didn't look like the scary people that would put razorblades in them (remember that scare from growing up).
We didn't have a lot of takers of the food pantry type items until it got darker out which I predicted. But those were mostly taken too, with a few folks calling out "THANK YOU!" to us since by that point, we were inside avoiding the cold wind. Emily went out to assess things this morning and there was only enough pantry items to fill a small box. We hope it helps the folks get ahead of things in case SNAP doesn't kick in this month.
If you haven't heard, there's a call to Blackout the System and not buy anything from November 25 through December 2. We're going to try to do that so we'll have to do our grocery shopping beforehand. Even after that, we'll try to stick to small and local businesses to send a message to the billionaires during the holiday season.

Date: 1 Nov 2025 14:37 (UTC)We also hit up a small black-owned meat market for a few things on the way back. They take EBT so they're going to be hit hard until hopefully this crap gets sorted out.
