I was wondering why Dad hadn't called me this morning since he usually checks in. I had some issues getting through since no one was actively manning the desk from around noonish to after 1 but I finally got him. Seems SOMEONE was being rather the rabblerouser today.
He didn't call early since he woke up not feeling great but hey, at 87, some days are just like that. However, I nagged him to go and get something to drink. He's bad about that as it is. Anyway, there aren't any activities on Sundays except for a 10am "Sunday Service with the Berrys" which he decided to attend for shits and giggles. The preacher/priest/who knows asked if there was anyone there that wasn't believer and Dad...being Dad...raised his hand. The dude kept him after for a good 45 minutes trying to do a speed save of Dad's soul and yeah, Dad wasn't having any of it. He may have memory issues but that's one thing he's pretty set in his beliefs about. Dad was irritated that the guy was going on about how he did SOOOO many bad things when younger and then he was "saved" and everything's great. Trust me, Dad didn't budge ONE inch. If anything, he's even less willing to believe in any God. LOLLLLL.
Hopefully he doesn't relate the story to either Sis and BIL or the Brother since they won't be happy since they are all saved 'n' stuff. We didn't grow up religious except for when we were babies they did some of the Lutheran stuff so I got splashed, I suppose. I didn't burst into flame so I guess I'm good.
In less blasphemous news, I had to drop a bunch of money today. Man it's been an expensive time lately. My phone has been on and off weird about charging up and then today the battery percentage was dropping and then even went randomly up and when I checked it, it says "service" for the battery. Dagnabbit. I could pay to get the battery replaced but it's an iPhone 8 that was a preowned one that I've had for four years so I guess it was time to upgrade. I'm not one of those people that needs to get the latest and greatest but I'm several levels newer now. With my Verizon prepaid plan, the iPhone 12 was the lowest version currently offered but didn't have great ratings and for about $40, the iPhone 13 had far better ratings so I ordered that. I'd better get my Rakuten discount back (which may be upwards of $150). I also ordered a case, screen protector and wireless charger thingamabob from Otterbox. Merry Xmas to me, I guess. Hopefully it's not too much of a pain in the ass to change phones. I'll bring my current and the new one to work with me so that if I have trouble, I can at least use my work phone to call to get help.

Date: 3 Dec 2023 20:04 (UTC)I've been trying to remember to say "yes" to the REALLY OBNOXIOUS Rakuten popup that I installed - I should see if I've gotten anything back yet, LOL
Merry Xmas to you - sucks to have to spend money unexpectedly like that - but hopefully it will be a smooth transition to the new phone!

Date: 3 Dec 2023 20:11 (UTC)Sis was SO EXCITED when he heard Dad had agreed to go to a mid week devotions thing since one of the ladies asked him. He’s not going back to that either 😂

Date: 3 Dec 2023 22:49 (UTC)I was baptized Presbyterian, sort of. I was the thirteenth of thirteen babies baptized in a ceremony at the end of Sunday service. The first dozen babies were very quiet and docile. I started squirming and screaming blue murder as soon as the minister tried to touch me. I consider it a forced baptism.
Good luck with your new phone.

Date: 4 Dec 2023 14:08 (UTC)Dad once gave the rebuttal to the eulogy at his cousin's funeral. The minister, who had never met the cousin because he never went to church, made him sound very saintly, so Dad stood up and told everyone what the cousin was really like. He was close to his cousin and figured the cousin would want to be remembered as he really was.

Date: 5 Dec 2023 04:28 (UTC)For my MIL, the preacher had not known her and despite talking to her many friends at church and w. her family it was the oddest eulogy. He spoke vaguely of her faith, and her love of crossword puzzles, and that she baked great birthday cakes. The crossword she had liked doing them in the newspaper but she hardly loved them. It was part of reading the paper to her. HE ended w. something her oldest son had talked about bc he and his wife was writing a recipe book for the family recipes. Neal had related how they made Pimento cheese regularly and had it for lunch and how his mom said she liked it for lunch and he'd take her a container every week. Only to find out after she'd had another stroke and lost her filter that she didn't like HIS recipe for Pimento cheese.

Date: 5 Dec 2023 04:36 (UTC)Your dad and the guy trying to save his 'poor soul.' FFS, these religious ppl and thinking they can convert and save someone in a short time. That'd be a conversation to have been able to listen in on. I'm glad your dad is settling in to the new place. I know it's hard on you being far away and it being such a short time since your mom passed.
