I got a thing

Sweetness, my 2010 Nissan Versa with about 59K miles on it has been traded in for a 2025 Honda HR-V. Did I get the greatest deal in the world? Well, it wasn't perfect but we did make them take off the $3K in padding that I wasn't about to pay for. The trade in value could've been better but well, to be honest, it was in a minor fender bender years ago and it is wayyyyyy overdue for servicing (probably needs breaks and other things and it rattles a lot anytime it gets close to freezing) so it was good enough. Got a good 3.9% interest rate and a car that will be safer and more reliable, especially for winter.




Things like the backup camera confuse me already. But it doesn't feel too big (it's the smallest of the crossover SUV thingies) but it's tall enough that I don't have to struggle to get in and out. All of the sedans of the different brands are too low. Nervous about spending a lot of money but it was time. If I keep this one as long as the last one, heck, it could be the last car I buy.

I'm BEAT, though. It took FOUR HOURS (why? who knows?) and by the time we got done, we went back to my place and fed JonJon and then went out to get an early dinner.

I would’ve thought that, except for the fact that it was even taking forever for him to go pick up the car from the large lot that was a couple miles away. I’d already agreed to buy the car so we didn’t know what took so long. But it’s done. We were going to go to the Subaru dealership to consider cars for Emily, but we were beat. They aren’t open tomorrow, but we are going to drive through the lot so she can take a look to decide which ones she might want and then make an appointment for the day after Thanksgiving.

One good thing was that my car insurance didn’t seem to go up as much as I was expecting and the gap insurance was very cheap so I’m happy for that. I only owe them $100 more for the policy for the year now.

Does your regular car insurance company offer gap insurance?
When I bought my car, they wanted to roll that into my payment, but I said no, I would get it myself - and then found out GEICO doesn't offer gap insurance! wop wop!

I ended up with Amica insurance, while I had the gap insurance - and it was super cheap - especially compared to what the dealership wanted to charge me! And once I no longer needed it, I switched back to GEICO :D

Yep! I have used NJM insurance for the 22 years I’ve been in NJ. They brought it up when I called to get the cars swapped over and it’s $47 a year.

I looked it up - the dealership wanted $990 for 3 years for gap insurance! Amica charged me something like $80/year - much better! Although your NJM is getting you an even better price! Yay!

I would LOVE to come up, but there’s a reason why my car had less than 60,000 miles on it for 15 years old. I am petrified to drive on freeways.

Maybe once Emily and I can possibly sort out our golden girls situation and she can watch the boy, maybe I’ll get brave enough to make a trip ❤️

I keep thinking a backup camera would be a good feature since I have trouble seeing anything within 10 feet of the rear of the car because of the seat head things and the way the back of the car slopes up. Once you get used to it, let me know how you like it.

I've a feeling that the camera will come in handy on the rare times that I need to parallel park but for daily use, I'll probably just look around. Because a backup camera wouldn't see when someone comes out of the door at work to walk across the lot.

Now is the time to upgrade vehicles if you can. We can't. Mike will have to keep patching his old van and my 25 year old car until we're both dead.

Yeah, with the tariff's a comin', I knew although it's debt, since I can manage it, it was a good choice. Emily and I are going to go on Friday to the Subaru dealership for her.
