Don't belittle people's fears - fear of what may happen to themselves and the fear for the people they know and love. It's unconscionably rude.

Agreed, but that seems to be the main trait for the T supporters this election cycle. It's just a major fuck you to the rest of us on the planet.

A black gal that I used to work with that is a friend on FB is truly scared for her little three year old twins and the world they're going to be faced with now that Trump and his ilk didn't condemn the support of KKK and other white supremacists. I feel so horribly for her since her fears are so real and everyday to her and are now worse.

That ex-friend continues to get worse and worse on FB and also thinks he has the moral high ground because he's Catholic. He posted a video glorifying running over BLM protestors with cars, says he now "hates liberals" and follows the far-right fringe. Even when Trump won, he kept up his nasty vitriol for the people that still list him as friends. Although he won't likely see what I posted on FB since I unfriended him there, I felt compelled to post this:

That's truly despicable.

I understand the fears. I fear for myself, but I can't imagine how bad it would be for a minority whether it's black, Hispanic, Muslim, or gay. They're not target and these hateful bozos now feel supported in their hatred.

It's a scary time, indeed.

I'm not too afraid for myself, although I'm concerned about financial repercussions to my small investments, social Security, and Medicare. I am scared for my country. Other countries have gone down the path of electing irrational "strong men", scapegoating minorities, and jingoism. It did not turn out well.

There are people with much more obvious and daily fears but things like Social Security and Medicare concern me. Another thing is if they go right for the jugular on the Affordable Care Act. Although I have insurance through work, I was SO relieved that I didn't have to worry about pre-existing conditions being a burden. Now I may have to again. :(

I'm scared for my Hindu friend who went through enough nastiness after 9/11 because of jerks who thought a brown face meant Muslim.

That's terrible. The guy that used to be a friend who started going crazy on FB and I had to drop when he went after me on something I posted gets worse every day and our mutual friends are shell shocked. I mean he went so far as posting a video glorifying running over BLM protesters. It's like a sickness and we all didn't know he had that kind of hatred lurking under the surface.

I agree. To make fun of people's fear lessen you and pretty much shows the world your true colors.

Yes, it does. It's real fear, moreso for people that are already disenfranchised.

I also don't see it as disloyal to be discouraged and horrified at the outcome of the election and ponder leaving if there was a viable option in doing so. Hopes for a nation to try to continue doing good for minorities, gay folks, heck WOMEN in general have been devastated.

It's not disloyalty to express concern and worry. I call it compassion.

It's hilarious to see people freaking out! What on EARTH are you even talking about?

Just hysterical!

And no, I am NOT a Trump supporter.

*hugs* I'd love to visit, if nothing else (though I should honestly renew my passport if nothing else for work purposes since I'm going to conferences)

My personal fears are few - the worry about Obamacare being eliminated and all of those "pre-existing conditions" coming back if I change jobs, Social Security and Medicare being privatized and screwed up.

But for friends, it's scary. Adrienne (Dark) and her family rely on Obamacare since they're underemployed and if they eliminate it without replacing it, they're super screwed. My friend and former coworker Fana who is so afraid for herself, her husband and three year old twins because they're black.

It irks me to all hell when WHITE people say that everything will be ok, to stop being cowards, to suck it up and support the president. Their fears are REAL, they're palpable and it's not just rude, it's soulless to dismiss them.

I've already heard stories that sadden me. My student worker watched as black and hispanic kids look around nervously like they're going to be jumped and beaten up as they step on the campus bus. Before the election, there was a racist asshole that comes into the laundromat loudly proclaiming that when Trump is president, all the Mexicans will be sent back. Oh I'm SURE he's turned down his evil rhetoric, hasn't he? Emily told me about how our good friend Ayse's daughters are afraid because their mother is Muslim (she is letting them choose their religion when they're older). A friend and former bellydance teacher has a Latino friend that's already been harassed by a guy in a Trump shirt about how he needs to "go home." How can I, in good conscience, expect them NOT to be afraid, NOT to want to leave if they can because they feel unsafe because a man that said he's going to build a wall to keep them out, a man that has made speeches that has stirred up the fear about ALL Muslims?

It's going to take a lot of adjustment on Trump's part before I will even consider that he's president. He ran on a platform of hate and won. The KKK are now out and proud and for some folks I've seen to say that it's foolish or somehow Unamerican not to be afraid, well I've had enough of having to tow the line.

That said, I'm not necessarily behind the current protests going on. He's been voted in by the large glut of people who bought his spiel and the deed is done. However if he and/or congress start to completely erode the progress Obama made when it comes to healthcare, LGBTQ rights, women's rights, then damn straight I'm going to do my part.

I find it ironic that we elected (TWICE) a black man as President...now we have a White Nationalist as Commander in Chief. The man can't tie his own shoes, read a sentence or form a coherent thought...and he is leading our country in three months time. I'm beyond bewildered, scared and heartbroken.

Trust me. Any progress made the last hundred years will be undone within the first hundred days. Between Trump and the Red Congressional House, it'll be gravy to them. UGH.

*HUGS*

(frozen) I think it's rude to belittle their GRIEF, but...

Some of my friends are over-the-top spinning scare-stories about concentration camps and families being ripped apart. I've heard that at least one teenager in this environment committed suicide. I call foul. This is what is known as "disordered thinking", and suicide is contagious and actual human CHILDREN are dying from fear.

So, yeah, I am happy to give out hugs. I wore all black. It's been pretty sucky. But dial it BACK. Republicans aren't monsters and if you think they are then you're literally suffering from a mental illness and telling people that their fear is outsized is a kindness. Go get some therapy. Get some perspective. Get it together.

Sadness is reasonable. Concern, worry, challenge to figure out how to move agendas forward is good. But look at the GOOD things going on. For example, in Oregon a bi woman Democrat is governor. All the state house and senate are Democrat. The people of your state are not going to turn on you. Literally the most danger your gay children (and MY gay child) are in right now is from SUICIDE because you SCARED THEM TO DEATH.

By the way, the friend who I told this to had a bunch of people jump to his defense to accuse me of practicing medicine without a license (for identifying disordered thinking) and called me an "ableist gaslighter" for speaking without the burden of mental illness. I am a Democrat, but do not pass the Liberal Left Fringe Purity Test. So please, by all means, ignore people who aren't mentally ill if you need to be only around people who share your delusions.

Specifically, the OP should feel free to delete this comment as it's rude, condescending and irritating. I only mention it because your little game of fearmongering is hurting actual people.

Dial what back? I have friends with valid, palpable fears. They've already been harassed by rabid Trump supporters, they're already worried that they are going to lose their healthcare. I am NOT the one stirring their fears, I am asking for people like youto be sympathetic to them and recognize that gee, perhaps they have a good reason to feel afraid. I am the one to say NOT to ignore them, NOT to call them cowards. I am doing 100% the opposite of what you are accusing me of.

Nice to know you can play armchair psychologist and hey, you know what? Some people ARE going to lose their healthcare and won't be able to get that therapy that you're recommending. I'm lucky that I have work-sponsored healthcare and don't have to worry about it myself. I have perspective, you are the one being judgemental and unsympathetic

That and where ANYWHERE did I say Republicans are monsters? I'm the lone registered Democrat in a Republican family and I did not disparage them. Gee, nice to know Oregon will have a nice little forward-thinking bubble but that doesn't represent the nation at large.

Don't you dare blame me for anyone's suicide. You're the one basically telling them to suck it up and that's when they internalize it and commit suicide. My gay friends have enough problems right now with people harassing them for trying to be who they are. They certainly don't need a president and VP who are in favor of stripping them of their rights to be married, visit each other in the hospital and in the VP's case, support such a horrible thing as conversion therapy.

And yes, you are rude, condescending and irritating. I'm sure nothing I said will change your mind but it's important to leave the blathering of judgemental buttholes like yourself out in the open for people to recognize. Check your privilege.
